Some things I wish I had put in (I...Thanks, Chaka!

Some things I wish I had put in (I wrote this in about an hour, so the rewrite would be different):

1. Gen X openly asked queer culture to come out of the closet, hence the popularity of celebrities like RuPaul, Keith Haring, Ellen G. and Jane Lynch (just to name very, very few). We also actively dispelled myths about AIDS and are currently fighting for queer marriage.

2. Gen X created hip hop. Not the corporate hip hop. Gen X created the socially aware hip hop culture that includes the brilliance of The Roots, Public Enemy, Salt 'N' Pepa and TLC. Don't let me get into the Latino DJs, dancers and visual artists. Oh, and Gen X created HOUSE MUSIC.

3. Gen X created a brand of punk music that actually questioned immorality. No, not the current corporate punk (yeah, sure Gwen Stefani was totally influenced by Fishbone, whatever). No, Gen X created bands like the Dead Kennedys, Ministry/RevCo, and Fugazi, who preached against monopolies, corrupt government, and war. They also taught a generation of kids to DO IT YOURSELF instead of becoming empty-headed consumers.

Obviously, I could go on....Griselhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18335613582709575850noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15626592.post-2884025875050466052010-06-21T11:19:01.711-04:002010-06-21T11:19:01.711-04:00I LOVE this!
